The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were well represented in the MLB Draft Tuesday, as both Bo Bonds (#398 to Toronto) and Tyler Robertson (#420 to San Diego) were both selected on the final day. Tyler Robertson made history as being the first Cajuns player to ever be selected by the Padres.
Bonds had a great year, going 5-3 with a 3.11 ERA and 83 strikeouts to lead the team in that category. Bonds, from Live Oak, Fla, was also named to the Sun Belt Conference Baseball All-Tournament Team after Louisiana claimed the 2022 SBC title and went to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.
Bonds was tied for the team-high in wins, which is even more impressive when you factor in that he only made one start in 2022. He also posted a season-high 14 strikeouts (10 consecutive) against South Alabama in March.
Robertson posted a .314 average with 33 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, and five homers in 2022 as a junior, posting his best season as a Cajun. The Montgomery, Ala native was also named to the SBC Tournament Team and even had an SBC Player of the Week honor during the season.
He finished fourth on the squad in hitting and led Louisiana in hit by pitch and sacrifices while finishing second in on-base percentage and doubles. Robertson also had 17 multi-hit games and carried a 14-game hitting streak.
Robertson played exceptionally well in his hometown for the SBC Tournament, hitting two home runs against top-seeded Texas State in the semifinals. He also scored the third run in that game to account for every Cajun run that night.
According to multiple sources, Bo Bonds has already decided to join the Blue Jays organization while Robertson is still working on a decision.
Friday afternoon, Robertson announced his intentions to join the Padres organization vis his Twitter.
