One of the breakout stars of the Cajuns 2020 season received some preseason accolades on Wednesday with Chris Smith being named to the Doak Walker Preseason Watch List.
The Doak Walker Award is for the nation’s premier running back.
Smith, a first-team All-Sun Belt representative last season as a return specialist, is coming off of a spectacular 2020 campaign that was highlighted by two kickoff returns for touchdowns, becoming the first Cajun since Raymond Calais in 2017 to have two returns for touchdowns in the same season.
While Smith was phenomenal in his special teams role, he performed admirably as a running back with 350 yards rushing on 62 attempts and a touchdown.
With the departure of Elijah Mitchell, it’s expected that Chris Smith will be the main running back with a young corps behind him.
