There were a lot of distractions for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Thursday night. The first game inside the newly renovated Cajundome, a packed house full of fans excited to see the changes, and finals looming near for these college students. These didn’t matter for the Cajuns as they handily defeated the Colonels from Nicholls State for their fifth straight win.
It was all Cajuns from the outset as they opened things up with a 9-0 run in the opening three minutes. However, the Colonels would start to fight back and cut away at the lead as the first half would progress. The first half would end with a big run by the Cajuns and would take as much as a 17 point lead, but would be cut down to 13 as they headed into the locker room with a 48-35 lead.
Nicholls State would start out strong in the second half cutting the lead down to 10 points, but the Cajuns would come roaring back and turn it into a one-sided affair that was capped off by a three-pointer from Jerekius Davis with eight seconds left on the clock.
The Cajuns (5-2) will head over to Lake Charles on Saturday afternoon to take on McNeese State (2-4) with tipoff set for 1 pm.
