The Ragin Cajuns came home to a packed house and gave the fans a show on the way to a 44-17 win over the Northwestern State Demons.
The Cajuns wasted little time getting on the board with Elijah McGuire walked into the endzone to take an early lead scoring in under two minutes.
After forcing Northwestern State to punt, McGuire put on the jets on the first play, going 88 yards for the score. This was the third longest run play at Cajun Field.
The Demons decided to respond with a big running play of their own in the second quarter when Chris Jones broke free for a 41 yard TD run to keep the Demons within one touchdown.
But McGuire wasn’t done when he capped off an 11-play drive by barreling into the endzone from three yards out to make it 20-7 after freshman kicker Stevie Artigue missed the PAT. McGuire continued to have his way with the Demons defense, this time running 21 yards for his fourth touchdown of the night.
Northwestern State closed out the first half with a 21-yard field goal to cut away at the Cajuns lead.
McGuire did it again with his fifth and final touchdown of the night about halfway through the third quarter going from one yard out to increase the lead to 34-10.
The Demons continued to hang around when J.D. Almond connected with Cody Jones for a 14-yard score.
Torrey Pierce put the dagger in the Demons hopes in the opening play of the fourth quarter walking into the endzone to increase the Cajuns lead to 41-17 and Stevie Artigue wrapped things up with a 26-yarder.
The Cajuns have the next week off and will take on the Akron Zips at Cajuns Field with kickoff set for 6 pm.
