The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns scored a big road win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday.
As a result of that victory, a quartet of weekly honors were earned as well.
Kicker Kenneth Almendares took home Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week. Quarterback Ben Wooldridge was recognized as one of the Manning Stars of the Week. And lastly, Michael Desormeaux was named 247 Sports Sun Belt Head Coach of the Week and Tim Leger was named Sun Belt Offensive Coordinator of the week by the same publication.
Almendares made all of his kicks on Saturday, including the eventual game-winning 31-yard field goal in the final minutes of the contest against Wake Forest. He also made a season-long 50-yarder into the wind earlier in the game. Along with the field goals, he made all five extra points and accounted for 11 points on the day.
Wooldridge was honored as one of the “Stars of the Week” by the Manning Award. He was among eight players nominated for the week. He completed 20 of 29 passes and racked up 291 total yards with four touchdowns in the victory. The top vote-getter will be named Manning Award Quarterback of the Week on Wednesday.
Desormeaux led his team to a key non-conference win over the Demon Deacons. It was the first over a power-conference team since he took over the program. In addition, the victory marked the first ever for the Ragin’ Cajuns against a current member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Lastly, Leger’s offense was firing on all cylinders on Saturday. They scored 41 points, including 10 in the final quarter. They ran for 209 yards at 6.3 yards per attempt, and threw for 257. In total, the 466 yards helped lead the team to an important win.
