The LSU Tigers baseball team defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 17-4 on Tuesday night inside Alex Box Stadium. The win came via the 10-run rule.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU turned to right-hander Jaden Noot to start this game. Louisianan was able to get two runners on with infield singles. After being moved over on a groundout, one run came home when Steven Milam made a throwing error on a Jose Torres ground ball. That made it 1-0 Cajuns.
Andrew Herrmann got the ball to start for Louisiana. He struggled immediately, walking Derek Curiel and Jared Jones. Then, Daniel Dickinson delivered a ground-rule double to score a run and tie things up. That was immediately followed by a two-run double by Ethan Frey, giving LSU a 3-1 lead. Before the inning was over, Cade Arrambide launched a two-run shot to make it 5-1. Once the bases were loaded, Herrmann was lifted for Matthew Holzhammer. However, he allowed a grand slam to Jared Jones to fully break it open at 9-1.
The Cajuns added one back in the second when Sam Ardoin doubled home a run, making it 9-2. It stayed that way until the top half of the fourth, when UL chipped away some more. A passed ball and an RBI single from Brooks Wright made it 9-4 LSU.
The Tigers added one in the fourth to get the lead back to six at 10-4, and then five more in the fifth which made it 15-4. Two additional runs in the sixth made it 17-4. That would be all LSU needed to win this game via the 10-run rule.
