The LSU Tigers softball team defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 14-0 on Tuesday night inside Tiger Park in Baton Rouge. The win moves LSU to 24-1 overall and the loss drops Louisiana to 13-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cajuns were able to get the leadoff batter on in the top of the first. However, Jayden Heavener was able to get three straight outs to prevent the run from scoring.
The Tigers got the scoring started in the bottom half of the first. With runners on second and third and just one out, Tori Edwards scored two runs with an RBI single. That made it 2-0. However, the LSU offense was not done. Four more runs would come across as an error and a two-run double from Danieca Coffey helped the cause.
The Cajuns were turned away in the second, and LSU added to the lead. Jadyn Laneaux and Sierra Daniel each delivered RBIs as the lead swelled to 8-0.
The Cajuns loaded the bases in the following inning, but ultimately came up empty. That gave LSU another chance to extend their lead, and they did once again. Six more runs came across, with two coming on a home run from Edwards.
LSU got three more outs, and this game ended 14-0 after the 8-run rule went into effect.
BIG NUMBER: 6
LSU put up six runs in an inning twice in this game. It was that offensive explosion that helped the Tigers cruise to a victory.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tori Edwards
Edwards went 2-3 at the plate with a double, home run, and four RBIs. The Tiger offense was clicking all night, and she led the way.
