The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team is set to host the Marshall Thundering Herd for the Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Championship Game on Saturday, December 7th at 6:30 PM in Cajun Field.
The Cajuns defeated ULM 37-23 yesterday to finish the regular season 10-2 and 7-1 in SBC play. While Louisiana knew going into the day that they would represent the West, they still did not know where the game would be played or who the opponent would be.
Marshall needed a win to move in once Georgia Southern defeated App State earlier in the day. In a wild back-and-forth affair, the Thundering Hers prevailed in double overtime 35-33 over James Madison. That ensured that Marshall would play the Cajuns, but the location was still to be determined.
Multiple tiebreakers later, it was finally announced on Sunday morning that Louisiana would host based on the averages of four computer rankings. That means the current configuration of Cajun Field will see one more game this Saturday.
This marks the fifth time in the last seven seasons that Louisiana will represent the West in the SBC Championship. They have the most appearances all-time in the SBC Title game. It is the first appearance with Michael Desormeaux as the head coach for the Cajuns.
