Any youth baseball player’s lifetime dream is to make it to The Show.
For Hayden Cantrelle of Teurlings Catholic, that opportunity may come sooner than many of his Hub City area neighbors selfishly want.
Cantrelle, a longtime Ragin’ Cajun signee, is a virtual lock to be scooped up in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft, which gets underway Monday. The question is how highly, and by whom?
Earlier this week Cantrelle’s high school coach, Mike Thibodeaux, joined “Bumper to Bumper Sports” and shared that his star pupil had pre-Draft workouts scheduled this week with both the Miami Marlins and New York Yankees in Florida.
Thibodeaux also mentioned that the multi-sport star of the Rebels will end up with a decision to make that he termed both “awesome” and “difficult.”
UL fans unquestionably want to see Cantrelle suit up in the vermillion and white next spring. It’s also not a stretch to say he could start in the middle infield from day one.
But, simply reading between the lines of those with insight, it’s not a foregone conclusion that will happen.
Listen in below to the full interview with Thibodeaux and make your own observations.
