Following a week in which the defense gave up 54 points in a barnburner at Sulphur, order was restored in a return trip home.
Carencro shut out the NISH Yellow Jackets, limiting the visitors from New Iberia to only 171 total yards on 51 plays.
The pass defense was particularly stingy, allowing a lowly 57 yards through the air and forcing 12 completions on 20 passing attempts.
The Bears were up to the task versus the run, too, stuffing NISH time and again near the line of scrimmage while causing a turnover via fumble.
NISH’s offense tested the Golden Bears’ discipline with its option, zone-read scheme from the Shotgun. This week will be a much steeper test with Carencro traveling to Acadiana. Discipline will be the order of the night for Larry Breaux’s group, going up against the lethal split-veer attack.
