Louisiana’s Zeon Chriss was voted as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week for Week 6 of the college football season, outgaining seven other Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s voting contest.
Chriss engineered the 34-30 comeback victory over Texas State on Saturday, completing 13 of his 17 passes for 205 yards while rushing for 67 yards along with four total touchdowns.
The Manning Award selected 30 quarterbacks from across the country for its preseason watch list, but additional quarterbacks are added to the list throughout the season. Ten finalists are selected for the award, and the winner will be announced following the conclusion of the season with the College Football Playoff National Championship.
The Manning Award has been in place for 19 years and has recognized the top names in collegiate football. Quarterbacks from 14 different schools and four different conferences have been honored.
Every winner of the Manning Award follows in the footsteps of the Manning family. Archie, Peyton, and Eli combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns. The three also played in 10 bowl games and were named MVP of said bowl games four different times. Archie was the 2nd overall selection of his draft class, while Peyton and Eli were both taken with the #1 overall pick.
Chriss and the Ragin Cajuns return to the field next Saturday for Homecoming against the Georgia State Panthers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPNU.
