We’ve heard quite a few things from LSU’s Ed Orgeron the last few weeks as he’s made the media rounds lately.
He’s said that Danny Etling is the starting quarterback as of right now, LSU will be running the spread offense in 2017, and that he loves being the head coach of the Tigers. One of the more intriguing storylines as we head into fall camp was brought up on Wednesday when he spoke in front of the Rotary Club in Myles Brennan.
“I think Myles Brennan will be a championship quarterback.” Orgeron said of the Saint Stanislaus product, “When he’s going to be a championship quarterback? When he is ready.”
Orgeron seems to see something in this talented freshman that hasn’t participated in a full practice yet, not even mentioning other quarterbacks like Lowell Narcisse and Lindsey Scott Jr. For weeks, we’ve heard about the competition for the starting quarterback job being wide open and not hearing anyone else outside of Etling and Brennan seems to sound like Orgeron has his guys in mind for not only 2017, but into the future.
Extra Points:
Pro-Style Training Camp?
It seems like the way the Tigers will approach fall camp, which starts on Monday will have a similar feel to what the New Orleans Saints are doing over in Metarie.
“We want to put guys under pressure, so we’re going to treat this like an NFL preseason camp.” Orgeron said of his plans for camp, “We will have practices during the week and we will have what we call preseason games right there inside Tiger Stadium. We’ll have four of them and treat it just like the NFL. Our fifth will be our first game against BYU.”
That last sentence may sound like LSU is taking the Cougars lightly, but Orgeron has a lot of respect for the way that program is run and knows that this team is very mature.
