For the fourth consecutive week, LSU has been represented on the LSWA Players of the Week list.
Jayden Daniels was once again named LSWA Offensive Player of the Week for his dominant performance in a loss to Ole Miss. The fifth-year quarterback set career highs in passing yards and total offense in the 55-49 loss that saw 1300 yards of total offense by both teams.
Daniels had 513 yards of total offense and 414 yards through the air against the Rebels in a game where LSU fell into an early 14-0 hole. He threw for four touchdowns while rushing for another, making him the first player in LSU history to be responsible for four or more touchdowns in four straight games.
Three of his four passing touchdowns went to Brian Thomas Jr., one of his top targets this season, while the other went to former Louisiana Ragin Cajuns receiver Kyren Lacy. Daniels also had a 55-yard rush in the second quarter that was the longest of his career.
LSU’s offense had 623 total yards of offense in the game and 34 first downs. After falling behind 14-0, the Tigers quickly made it 31-28 at the half. The rushing TD by Daniels early in the third quarter gave LSU their first lead of the game, and at one point, LSU scored on fourth straight and 7 of 9 possessions.
Tulane’s Devean Deal and Louisiana Tech’s Smoke Harris were also honored as the defensive and special teams honorees for Week 5.
