Jayden Daniels has been recognized for his excellent performance on Monday Night Football.
The former LSU star and Heisman Trophy winner Daniels completed 21-of-23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns in Washington’s Week 3 victory on the road at Cincinnati. He also added 39 yards on the ground on 12 attempts and scored one rushing touchdown.
Daniels’ 91.3 completion percentage was the highest by a rookie in a single game in NFL history and the highest in a single game in franchise history (minimum 20 attempts).
For that performance, the National Football League announced today that Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been selected as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3.
Daniels is the first Washington player to earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors since running back Adrian Peterson did so in Week 8 of the 2018 season. He is the first Washington quarterback to earn the honor since Kirk Cousins did so in Week 3 of the 2017 season.
Daniels is also the first Washington rookie quarterback to earn the honor since Robert Griffin III did so twice during the 2012 season in Week 1 and Week 11.
Daniels orchestrated scoring drives on every possession, minus kneel downs and Washington became the first team since 2000 to score on every drive in two consecutive games.
Daniels has zero turnovers in three games this season.
Daniels won the Heisman Memorial Trophy in 2023 as he threw for 3,812 yards, and completed 72.2 percent of his passes, with 40 touchdowns to only four interceptions. Daniels also rushed for 1,134 yards and scored 10 rushing touchdowns.
In two seasons playing for Brian Kelly with the Tigers, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Daniels threw for 6,725 yards with 57 touchdowns to only seven interceptions, while also rushing for 2,019 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns.
