After the way the New Orleans Pelicans (40-30) lost on Saturday to the Houston Rockets, it seemed like it’d be more of the same against one of the best teams in the league in the Boston Celtics (47-23).
That wasn’t the case though Anthony Davis’ 34 points and 11 boards on Sunday was more than enough to get them past the Celtics by the score of 108-89. It was a rough start though for the Pelicans as Boston got out to an early 8-0 lead. They were able to hold onto that early lead throughout the first quarter thanks to Marcus Morris putting up 11 points.
It was more of the same in the second quarter until the Pelicans went on a 6-0 run to take a brief lead and were able to make it a two-point ballgame at the break thanks to Davis putting up four points in the final 46 seconds of the first half.
Emeka Okafor helped the Pelicans get out in front early in the second half with four boards and four points. New Orleans was able to get up by as much as 11 points with 3:37 left in the third quarter with Nikola Mirotic putting up eight points.
The Pelicans put the finishing touches on the big win after a three-point play by Davis made it a 21-point lead with 3:35 left in regulation.
New Orleans will take on the Dallas Mavericks (22-48) at home on Tuesday night with tipoff set for 7 pm.
