A rain storm in the early morning prevented the 2024 Masters from starting on time on Thursday morning.

However, the weather was not as bad as anticipated. That allowed the tournament to get going just two hours later than scheduled at Augusta National, even after some projections had them having to wait until the afternoon.

When the weather cleared and the honorary starters Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson teed it up at the first, it was a windy but playable day in Georgia.

Early on in the day, Bryson Dechambeau stole the spotlight. The LIV Golf member got off to quite a start, making birdie on each of his first three holes. The quick start would fade for a while, however, as he played the next eight holes at +1. That put him at -2, but he was far from done. Five birdies in his final seven holes saw Bryson skyrocket to the top of the leaderboard at -7 with a multi-shot lead after the early players had finished.

Current world number one ranked player Scottie Scheffler had an afternoon tee time. He entered the week as the favorite, playing great golf so far this season. He began the day with a par on hole one but quickly got into red numbers with a birdie on hole two. He only made two birdies on the front, but picked up steam on the back. On that side, he made four birdies, all while never dropping a shot with a bogey-free round. That got Scheffler to -6, but he could not get to the -7 number that Dechambeau set.

Tiger Woods also teed it up, and he played fairly well. He shot -1 through 13 holes. However, he was unable to finish his round due to darkness and the weather delay. He will have to finish his first round and complete his full second round tomorrow.

Other notables on the leaderboard consist of Phil Mickelson at +1, Rory McIlroy at -1, and Jon Rahm at +1.

Day two will begin early at 6:50. Players will finish the first round before the second round begins afterwards.
