Who Dat Nation can now breathe a big sigh of relief with Drew Brees announcing that he will return to the gridiron for his 20th season. The 41-year-old quarterback made the announcement on Instagram Tuesday.
“I look forward to the grind and the journey, for the reward at the end will be worth it!” Brees said in the post, “Love you #WhoDatNation. Let’s make another run at it!”
The announcement is one of the many questions that Saints fans had heading into the offseason. The longtime Saints quarterback mentioned during Pro Bowl Weekend that he was taking some time to contemplate whether he was going to retire or return for one more go.
The million-dollar question for the Saints now is what happens with Taysom Hill and Teddy Bridgewater. In the case of Bridgewater, this likely signals his exit because his value heading into free agency is quite high after his spotless record as a starter while Drew Brees was down with an injury to his thumb. With Hill, it’s expected he’ll be the QB2 on the depth chart, but his recent comments about wanting to be a franchise quarterback creates some intrigue as to what the franchise will do with their swiss army knife going forward.
