After two straight games with double-digit runs, it was expected that the LSU Tigers (7-0) would have some struggles offensively on Sunday afternoon, but no one expected that the Bryant Bulldogs (2-4) to keep it as competitive as they did. All that being said, the Tigers got a run across the plate at exactly the right time, resulting in a 4-3 win to complete the series sweep.
How It Happened:
LSU wasted little time getting on the board with Josh Smith scoring off of a sac fly by Saul Garza. That was followed up by an RBI single from Gavin Dugas to take an early 2-0 lead.
Bryant finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when Sam Owens hit an RBI double out to left center. Dugas made it 3-1 when he reached home safely off of a fielder’s choice by Brock Mathis.
The Bulldogs started to rally in the top of the sixth with a pair of RBI singles from Owens and Gaby Cruz to knot things up at three runs apiece. However, Antoine Duplantis gave the Tigers what would be the game-winner with a two-out RBI single through the right side.
Big Number: 8
The entire pitching staff was solid in Sunday’s win, racking up a total of eight strikeouts. It’s even more impressive with Aaron George and Todd Peterson racking up four in a combined three and a third innings of work.
Player of the Game: Zach Watson
Zach Watson had a fairly efficient day, going two-of-four on the afternoon and each of his hits resulted in a run.
