Duplantis Powers LSU Past UNO in 7-5 Win

Posted by clintdomingue on May 14, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

In the final midweek game of the 2019 season, LSU got over some of the midweek issues they’ve had in the past, resulting in a 7-5 win over the UNO Privateers.

How It Happened:

The Privateers were able to strike first with a two-run blast by Antonio Gauthier to left field, but that lead didn’t last long as the Tigers responded in the bottom of the third with four runs capped off by a two-run bomb by Daniel Cabrera.

UNO responded in the fifth with a solo shot from Salo Iza to make it a 4-3 ballgame but Antoine Duplantis responded in the bottom frame with a solo shot to right field. LSU kept on rolling in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from Hal Hughes and a bases-loaded walk put the Tigers out in front with a 7-3 lead.

That lead got cut down to two runs in the ninth when Gauthier went yard yet again with a two-run home run to right field, but Zack Hess was able to close it out in the bullpen to give LSU a win on Tuesday night.

Big Number: 14

The Privateers stranding 14 on base was definitely a big reason why UNO lost despite racking up 13 hits on the evening.

Player of the Game: Antoine Duplantis

The senior is creeping closer towards Eddie Furniss’ record and the three hits he had on the evening were absolutely crucial, especially the RBI single in the third to tie things up.

Next Up: Thursday vs Auburn; First Pitch at 6:30 pm
