Less than 24 hours after coming away with one of the most important wins of his career, Dustin Poirier was given a hero’s welcome when he returned to his hometown on Sunday afternoon with about 100 people taking over the Lafayette Regional Airport.
The first person that greeted him was his four-year-old daughter Parker, who he hadn’t seen over the last ten weeks while at his fight camp in Florida with American Top Team.
Poirier spoke briefly with the media upon landing and said that the expectation is that he’ll receive a shot at the UFC Lightweight Championship against Charles Olivera and that could be at the end of 2021.
“I think they’re pushing for December, so we’ll see.” Poirier said, “I just need to get home with my family and focus on the bigger picture. I was so focused on last night that I hadn’t had the time to plan ahead.”
