The way this season ended for LSU wasn’t the way many fans expected to see it end. Throughout the season, LSU had these miraculous performances late and many fans expected the same thing to happen.
However, LSU’s bats continued to relatively silent on Tuesday night as the Florida won its first College World Series title with a 6-1 victory.
JJ Schwarz got the Gators going in the bottom of the first with an RBI single. Deacon Liput gave the Gators a little more insurance in the bottom of the second with an RBI single of his own.
Josh Smith got a little bit of a rally going in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to make it 2-1. Later in the inning, it initially looked like the Tigers had tied things up after Michael Papierski had grounded into a double play. However, Josh Smith caused interference by sliding away from the base. That caused Josh Smith, who would have been the tying run to stay at third base.
The Gators put the final nail in the eighth with four run inning highlighted by Liput’s two-run single.
Jared Poche dropped to 12-4 in his final game of his college career allowing two runs off of seven hits in five and two-thirds of an inning of work. The senior walked one and struck out three.
