I can’t believe we’re about halfway through the regular season when it comes to high school football! So far this season, there’s been a lot of big matchups, but week five is where we really begin to separate the men from the boys with several games that could begin to clear up the district title picture. Yes, it’s only week five and a lot could happen, but when you look at two of three ballgames that I’m going to mention it makes a little more sense.
Acadiana vs Barbe
The veer is still something that needs to be feared in 2018 and they’ll have a tall task ahead of them with a matchup against the Barbe Buccaneers who have been scoring at will. The Bucs were given a run for their money at least early on last week against Lafayette High, but they eventually put the pedal to the metal.
We haven’t seen an outright dominant offensive performance from the Wreckin’ Rams in 2018 and they’ll need one of those if they want to remain unbeaten and start staking a claim for the 3-5A district crown.
Church Point vs Eunice
5-3A is underappreciated when you talk about strong districts. Of course, a lot of the conversation turns to the aformentioned 3-5A and 4-4A, but when you have three teams after one week of district play undefeated it is a strong district to say the least.
Church Point and their high-powered offense is taking on a very good Eunice team and will undoubtedly be one whale of a ballgame that some high school football fans will sleep on.
Notre Dame vs Kaplan
Kaplan may only be 2-2 to start the season, but there’s no doubt in my mind that the Pirates are going to be up for this ballgame and give Lewis Cook’s Pios everything they can handle.
It’s going to be a fun battle and you can listen to all the action on 106.3 Radio Lafayette as part of the Vermillion Parish Game of the Week!
