Houston Astros play-by-play announcer Robert Ford was honored as one of the 2022 Texas Sportscaster of the Year award recipients by the National Sports Media Association. Ford is heading into his 11th season with the Astros alongside his partner Steve Sparks.
During his time in Houston, Ford has been the lead voice for the golden era of Astros baseball, with seven postseason appearances, six straight trips to the ALCS, four AL pennants, and two World Series championships. Since 2015, Ford and Sparks have called 92 postseason games, which is the most in any sport during that span.
Prior to his time in the MLB, Ford, a Syracuse University graduate, broadcasted minor league baseball for seven seasons, from Binghamton to Yakima and Kalamazoo. During that time, he was named Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year. In 2009, Ford joined the Royals as their pregame and postgame host before coming to Space City in 2013.
Ford is the first Astros broadcaster to earn the honor since Bill Brown in 2013.
