Kyren Lacy, a Thibodaux native and former star with the LSU Tigers and Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, has passed away at the age of 24.

According to reports, Lacy died Saturday night in the Houston area. The news was confirmed by a family member.

Lacy spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career with the Cajuns, catching 50 passes for 668 and 10 touchdowns while being a part of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Championship team.

In 2022, Lacy transferred to LSU to play for Brian Kelly. In three seasons with the Tigers, Lacy appeared in 39 games, hauling in 112 catches for 1692 yards and 16 touchdowns. His biggest moment was the overtime winner against Ole Miss in October at Tiger Stadium.

On December 17, Lacy was in the Thibodaux area when he illegally passed multiple vehicles while speeding, causing an accident and killing a 78-year-old man. Lacy then fled the scene and was later arrested for negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation.

Lacy was due in court on Monday in relation to the accident in which his lawyers said Lacy was “fully cooperating with authorities”.

Lacy was preparing for the NFL Draft, which is later this month in Green Bay.
