Andrew Stevenson is a World Series champion.
The former St. Thomas More and LSU star joins a growing list of former Tigers who have won World Series championships after Washington Nationals posted a 6-2 win over the Houston Astros Wednesday night in Minute Maid Park.
The Youngsville product played in 31 games this past season for the Nationals, batting .367 (11-for-30) with one double, one triple and five runs scored. Stevenson scored the tying run on October 1 as a pinch runner during a three-run, eighth-inning rally, as the Nationals erased a 3-1 deficit and posted a 4-3 Wild Card game victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Stevenson, the Nationals’ second-round draft choice in 2015, starred at LSU from 2013 through 2015 and started 154 games in center field. Stevenson earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference and third-team All-America honors in 2015, and helped LSU to a pair of College World Series appearances (2013 and 2015).
Stevenson earned first-team all-state honors in 2012 at STM when he hit .546 with 11 double, five triples and 20 RBI. Stevenson also earned All-America honors from Louisville Slugger and Baseball America.
