After a slow start for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (1-0) on Thursday afternoon, the offense came alive in the third and came away with a 7-1 victory over the Samford Bulldogs (0-1) to open up the Glasco era in earnest.
Samford wasted little time getting on the board with Madison Couch hitting an RBI single down the left field line with two outs to get the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the top of the first.
Kara Gremillion tied it up though in the bottom of the second, scoring off of a foul out by Brittany Holland. The Cajuns took the lead in the bottom of the third with freshman Casidy Chaumont hitting one out to right centerfield on her first collegiate at-bat to make it 2-1. That jolted the offense awake and the Cajuns put up three more runs before the third inning ended.
Chaumont helped deliver the final blow in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to left center to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Casey Dixon got the win allowing one run off of two hits, walked two, and struck out six in four innings of work.
The Cajuns will continue play in the Mardi Gras Classic on Friday when they take on Eastern Illinois at 4:30 pm and Evansville at 7 pm.
