The series between the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and the Little Rock Trojans was a positive result on the whole, but it certainly didn’t end the way many fans wanted it to with an extra innings loss. With all that behind us, let’s grade out the Cajuns performance over the weekend!
Offense: B
The Cajuns offensive output was at times lacking, but they were able to make things work, averaging .227 with a couple of home runs for good measure. The average was helped by a solid Sunday from Gavin Bourgeois, but only putting together 15 runs over the weekend was a little less than ideal against a team like the Trojans.
Infield Defense: B+
There were some errors by the Cajuns infield, but for every miscue they made up for it with some gems. Saturday alone saw them turn four double plays and only allowing 9 runs over the weekend was a good sign after the shellacking that the Bulldogs gave them earlier in the week.
Outfield Defense: B-
Sunday saw some issues pop up in the outfield, one that sticks out has to be on a shallow fly ball to left that saw three players go for it and no one was able to come up with it. Some of these were understandable though considering how much the wind changed the trajectory of the ball in the later innings.
Weekend Rotation: A
It’s not often you see a team throw back-to-back shutouts. In fact the Cajuns hadn’t done that since 2014 against Alabama. That alone was enough to give them the highest grade amongst the positions of interest.
Bullpen: B
The bullpen was able to do their job for much of the weekend. However, Nick Lee’s extended bullpen work really brought the grade down on what was a really good weekend when it came to pitching
Overall: B-
