LSU was able to hold their own inside of the friendly confines of Alex Box Stadium, taking two of three against Mississippi State. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows with a few blemishes to the Tigers performances over the weekend.
Offense: B+
The offense was clicking over the weekend, batting .239 (25-of-96). “The BP From Hell” worked out really well with four home runs, three doubles, and a triple was a great step in the right direction for a team that seemed to be sleepwalking during the series against Vanderbilt.
Infield Defense: C-
The Tigers committed three errors and all of them came from the infield. However, they were able to get out of most of these miscues unscathed and that helped their grade stay at a C-minus. What pushed it down to that point was another passed ball by Hunter Feduccia and it seems like we’re starting to take notice of these things because they’re costing LSU.
Outfield Defense: B+
No costly errors for the defense and a handful of extra base hits is more than enough to get a B-plus over the weekend.
Weekend Rotation: A-
What a weekend for the starting pitchers. Even though he got the loss, Caleb Gilbert also had a solid outing, striking out six in five and a third. We saw Zack Hess do Zack Hess things, throwing out ten and allowing one run off of three hits and Ma’Khail Hilliard look like an absolute stud throwing six shutout innings. Great weekend for the Tigers starting pitchers at home.
Bullpen: A+
The Tiger bullpen went all out over the weekend, allowing only four hits over the weekend. If not for some miscues on Friday night, there’s a solid chance that the Tigers sweep the series because of the bullpen’s stellar performance.
Overall Grade: A-
