We all have heard by now about the #RallyOpossum. LSU baseball has run off a 9 game win streak and seem to be playing their best baseball of the season. Coach Mainieri has his young club clicking on all cylinders right now and it could not come at a better time for the club. Yes, the bats have been coming alive and the Tigers are starting to score runs in bunches, putting up crooked numbers much more often now that previously this season. Even with the good offensive push of late, in my eyes, the majority of the credit goes to the LSU pitching staff. Poche seems to be back on track, Lange is starting to look like the Alex Lange we saw last year, and maybe just maybe the Tigers may have figured out that 3rd starter spot that has plagued them for a couple seasons now. All the credit, however, does not go to just the starters. The Tiger bullpen has been lights out recently as well. Doug Norman has showed up as a real threat, Austin Bain, Jesse Stallings, Parker Bugg, and even Jake Latz have looked good coming in to the game. The most covered story with these guys has to be that Jake Latz threw a perfect inning against Northwestern State, and LSU pitching coach Alan Dunn said that Latz may just find himself on the active roster for the Florida series. If Latz is finally healthy the Tigers may have found the perfect boost for that bullpen. Not just to try and win the Florida series at home, but keep a strangle hold on a Regional Host sight. The only thing keeping the Tigers from hosting an NCAA Baseball Regional now would be an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the #1 Florida Gators. If the Tigers can hold their own against the Gators starting Thursday, we are all but assured to see playoff baseball at The Box again this year.
