Depending who you talk to, the former Teurlings Rebel Hayden Cantrelle deserved to be named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after his performance over in Little Rock, Arkansas. The red-hot shortstop left no doubt with a phenomenal week highlighted by hitting for the cycle last Tuesday, receiving the honor a week later.
Cantrelle currently has a hit streak of 13 straight games and finished the week with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, and seven RBIs. The sophomore was also named the LSWA Player of the Week for the second time in his young career. The first time was after the UL Monroe series when he tallied six extra-base hits over the weekend.
This is the first time since Stefan Trosclair received the honor in May of 2016 that a Cajuns player received Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week. It seems appropriate since that was the same weekend when Trosclair hit for the cycle.
The Cajuns will take on the Tulane Green Wave Tuesday night with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
