It was a historic basketball season for Hicks and Ebarb.
Hurricane Laura damaged the school’s gym but that did not keep Hicks from winning a third straight LHSAA title. Meanwhile, Ebarb reached the Class C championship game for the first time since winning the 1970 title.
As a result, seniors Chloe Wilbanks of Hicks and Zach Parrie of Ebarb were selected as the Outstanding Players on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class C all-state basketball teams.
Their coaches, Hicks’ Mike Charrier and Taylor Lee of Ebarb, were chosen as the Coach of the Year recipients.
Wilbanks, a two-time Class C MVP and Louisiana-Monroe commitment, averaged 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds per game in leading Hicks to a third title in a row. Parrie scored 25.4 points, grabbed 5.7 rebounds and dishes out five assists per game for Class C runner-up Ebarb.
Charrier won his first Coach of the Year honor, while Lee won his second award, having led Ebarb’s girls to a semifinal appearance in recent years.
Joining Wilbanks on the first team were Plainview senior Jordan Thompson (18 ppg), Gibsland-Coleman senior Jamya Jackson (15 ppg), Reeves senior Claire Dunnehoo (21 ppg) and Hicks junior Lauren Quinn (20 ppg).
Parrie is joined on the boys first team by Simpson senior Rhett Petre (18 ppg), Phoenix senior NaShaun Reddick (25.2 ppg), Family Christian junior Adam Mercier (22.7 ppg) and Jehovah-Jireh junior John-Paul Ricks (28 ppg).
