The coronation of Jordan Davis as the Ragin Cajun QB! Will the Etling kid shine in his first game-like situation for the LSU Tigers? What will the new Cajun offense look like? What will the new LSU defense look like? These are just some of the things we are looking forward to this Saturday when the Tigers and the Cajuns play their respective spring football games in front of, hopefully, thousands of students and fans, and dozens upon dozens of media members there for the free food.
Firstly, on the Ragin’ Cajun side of things we have a group of young receivers looking to fill the void left by Jamal Robinson. While Gabe Fuselier and Al Riles return for the Cajuns, redshirt freshmen Michael Jacquet and Ja’Marcus Bradley along with sophomore Keenan Barnes and senior Devin Scott will all be looking to win that coveted spot left by Robinson upon his graduation. Mark Hudspeth has personally overseen the development of the receiving corps this spring as the Cajuns look to provide their young QB Jordan Davis with as many weapons as possible. Speaking of Jordan Davis, this Saturday will be his coronation. The crown will be placed upon his head as THE man in the huddle for the Ragin’ Cajuns offense. Hud and his staff cannot afford another lost season because they just couldn’t make up their minds at quarterback. With the job as Jordan Davis’ to lose, the Cajun coaching staff can focus on more pressing issues that we will be watching closely this Saturday, most notably, the development of skill within the receiving corps and improving an abysmal pass rush from last season.
Over in Tigerland, LSU has an alleged quarterback competition underway. I don’t see it, but if you speak to the good Tiger fans at the bar or dare to venture into the abyss that is an LSU Tiger message board online, you will find that many Tiger football fans are wishing and hoping out loud that the Etling kid looks like a million bucks and takes Brandon Harris’ starting QB job before it is mid-season and too late. While Harris seems to be having a great spring by all accounts, the Etling kid has become kind of the “Great White Hope” for the impatient nincompoop Tiger fans. While the LSU Tigers are loaded with talent this season and the QB situation is a key to achieving the dream of overtaking Alabama in the SEC conference, do not forget where the LSU Tigers failed so miserably last season when under the bright lights against the Crimson Tide; the offensive and defensive lines. I’d be more concerned with what goes on in front of Harris and the Etling kid in Saturday’s spring game more so than what they are actually doing.
It’s spring football though! Culminating in an epic day of inflated optimism and false hope! The power of positivity will be strong this weekend! And I cannot wait to bask in it all! #POP Holding It Down!
