The Houston Astros have signed J.C. Correa, brother of shortstop Carlos Correa, to an undrafted free agent deal.

The deal is worth $20,000, which is the maximum amount for an undrafted free agent. Correa was selected by the Astros in the last two MLB drafts. He was drafted in the 38th round of the 2019 draft.

Correa played two seasons at Lamar University. In his junior season, he was named Second Team All-Southland Conference Shortstop. Correa played in 53 games as a shortstop or a designated hitter. He led the team in batting averaged at .332. Correa also led Lamar with 74 hits, 10 home runs and 44 RBI.

His senior season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Correa earned two preseason honors entering his senior year. He was named 2020 Preseason First Team All-Southland Conference shortstop and 2020 Preseason First Team Perfect Game All-SLC. According to lamarcardinals.com, Correa was projected to be a 15th-round pick in the MLB draft.

As a senior, Correa played in 14 games. He recorded 13 hits and five RBI. He also struck out eight times in 53 total at-bats.

Correa attended Puerto Rico Baseball Academy during his time in high school.
