Another NFL season has reached it’s peak and once again football fans are gearing up for a Super Bowl featuring Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the New England Patriots. Usually when a team wins so much and it gets absurd, people laugh at the absurdity of it all. “It’s so ridiculous how many Super Bowls we see them in man, it’s laughable! LOL!” You never hear anyone say this about New England because when it comes to their constant winning, it is not laughable, it is seriously ruining the Super Bowl for many football fans. I guess I kind of understand how a certain section of Pro Wrestling fans feel each year when Roman Reigns main events Wrestlemania. The only difference between New England and the Big Dog though, is that the Big Dog earns to be in his main event spot each year without question.
New England gets to the Super Bowl and each and every time their arrival in the game and their winning of the game is marred in controversy. Cheating scandals, dumb luck, and favorable calls usually make up the wave of momentum this so-called dynasty brings into the Super Bowl each year. Even with that though, at least most years the Patriots get to the Super Bowl, they are matched up with a team featuring big name coaches or players or they face a team everyone can get behind in hopes of taking down the NFL’s top heels. Unfortunately for us all, in Super Bowl LII that is not the case. This year we get to watch the Philadelphia Eagles attempt to beat the Patriots. The Eagles; a team featuring zero likable stars with their quarterback Carson Wentz out due to injury and a team with a fan base so obnoxious that it has many ardent Patriot haters rooting for another New England Super Bowl just because the notion of a Philly fan being able to gloat about their team finally winning is so nauseating.
It is pretty remarkable how much New England is defended by people who do not want to hear about cheating and favoritism. Tom Brady is a player who has been proven to have broken rules. Bill Belichick is a coach who has been exposed as someone who violated league policy and used underhanded tactics to gain an unfair advantage. The Patriots as an organization create and feed off of ugly controversies constantly. Yet, if you bring this stuff up and try to place and asterisk on everything they have done the last 17 years; fans, media members, and so-called experts will call that all crazy talk. They win so much all of that is really not that relevant because they are that damn good. Yet when I try to make the same argument about the greatness of Barry Bonds accomplishments are not valid because the allegations of steroids, never any proof by the way, are too heinous to not sully everything he accomplished in his sport. There is a double standard with New England and people accepting this as a true dynasty. The thing that sucks is that there is no hero or fun bunch that is coming around to knock them off of their pedestal.
If Philadelphia wins, we lose. If New England wins, we lose. They are calling it the Super Bowl where the fans win nothing. So unless you are gambler, I am sorry to say that Super Bowl LII is probably going to suck for you. Not that you can’t be entertained. Justin Timberlake’s halftime show should be a hoot. But just know that this is the Super Bowl where nobody gets what they want except a fan base we all can’t stand, a team we all want to see go away, and a league that does not give a squirt of donkey urine what you or I want. On Sunday February 4th, 2018, the NFL presents it’s championship game: the Eagles versus the Patriots in the Super Bowl that nobody wanted!
