Former UL All-American second baseman Jace Conrad and outfielder Caleb Adams will be starters in the 2015 Midwest League All-Star Game to be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Peoria, Ill.
The game is scheduled to be aired live on Cox Sports Television.
In addition to being the starting second baseman on the East squad, Conrad will be participating in the pregame Home Run Derby at Dozer Park in Peoria.
Conrad is currently batting .292 with 11 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 21 stolen bases for Single-A Bowling Green in the Tampa Bay Rays’ farm system.
Adams, meanwhile, will be a starting outfielder for the West squad. Adams, who plays for the Burlington Bees in the Angels’ farm system, is currently batting .294 with 10 doubles, five triples, two homers, 28 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
Adams is a teammate of another former UL standout at Burlington in right-handed pitcher Austin Robichaux. Robichaux didn’t make the All-Star Game, but is currently riding a hot streak for the Bees at 6-2 with a 3.61 ERA, giving up 61 hits, 21 walks and striking out 46 in 67.1 innings. Opponents are batting .240 against him.
As for the Home Run Derby, joining Conrad on the East squad by Bowling Green teammate Casey Gillaspie and Lake County’s Claudio Bautista.
The West squad will be represented by Andrew Daniel of Burlington, Jacob Nottingham of Quad Cities and Beloit’s Sandber Pimentel.
Gillaspie, Tampa Bay’s first round pick last June out of Wichita State, leads the Midwest League with 15 home runs in 57 games so far this season.
