The New Orleans Saints made their first of several moves early Tuesday morning, trading Jalen Saunders to the New England Patriots for a conditional draft pick.
Saunders, who has floated around the league since being drafted by the New York Jets in 2014 out of Oklahoma, was competing with rookie Marcus Murphy for the top return man job. Payton mentioned in Sunday’s postgame presser that Murphy would be on the roster in some capacity meaning that it would be more difficult for Saunders to make the roster.
The Saints will have until 3 p.m. to cut 14 more players to move the roster from 90 players to 75.
The second round of cuts will be due on Saturday leaving the Saints with the final 53-man roster for the 2015 season.
