The final moments of Thursday night’s matchup between the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (19-11, 9-8 Sun Belt) and the Texas State Bobcats (17-12, 10-7 Sun Belt) can be described in one word: insane.
With 3:59 left in regulation, Texas State was up 66-58. After the under four minute timeout, senior Jay Wright looked like a different player. Before the final three minutes, he had only made one shot in the game. Wright would catch fire with 12 points in the final 2:15 in regulation. That great performance turned the game upside down and wound up tying things up as time expired in the second half.
He continued to dominate in that extra period with five more points and along with a strong finish from freshman Justin Miller gave the Cajuns their fifth straight victory over the Bobcats.
The Cajuns will wrap up the regular season in the Cajundome to take on the leader in the conference in UT Arlington (24-6, 14-3 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 7:15 pm.
By the Numbers:
21: Number of points for Jay Wright. He led the Cajuns and ended up with two assists.
13: Number of points off turnovers for Texas State. While they had the edge in this aspect of the game, they didn’t get as many as they could off the Cajuns 17 turnovers.
54: Texas State’s free throw percentage.
