Justin Verlander, the leader in the AL Cy Young race, did not make the trip to Los Angeles with the Astros this week due to a family issue, according to multiple reports.
Verlander was in Oakland for the A’s series, but returned to Houston and is not scheduled to pitch again until Oakland comes to Minute Maid Park this weekend. When asked about Verlander’s availability for that start, he said “we hope so.”
Reports also indicate that Verlander would more than likely miss the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium- his ninth appearance in the event. Verlander is having a career year at the age of 39, leading the majors with 11 wins and a 2.00 ERA.
Last night, the Astros blew a 5-1 lead late in the game but were able to rally back for the 6-5 victory against the Angels.
Houston (57-29) will play against the Angels (38-50) tonight at 8:38 p.m. and you can hear it all on The Game.
