Labas Throws Complete Game Shutout Against Lamar

Posted by clintdomingue on April 24, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

If there’s one way to get the bad taste of an 0-4 week out of your mouth, LSU (25-17) an 8-0 win on Tuesday night against Lamar (13-27) thanks to a big game from AJ Labas.

How It Happened

It took a while for either team to get things going offensively with LSU getting on the board with a sac fly out to right field from Antoine Duplantis, scoring Brandt Broussard in the bottom of the third.

Josh Smith showed out in a big way to start the sixth inning with a solo shot out to right field to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Austin Bain made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

The Tigers really started to pour it on in the seventh with a two-out rally kickstarted by an RBI single from Antoine Duplantis and a two-run double from Daniel Cabrera.

Jake Slaughter finished the job in the eighth with a two-run single through the left side, making it 8-0.

AJ Labas improved to 5-1 on the season, allowing six hits in a complete game effort. He also racked up nine strikeouts and walked only one on the evening.

Big Number: 9

The Tigers might be a big fan on numerology, putting together nine hits and Labas striking out nine batters on the evening. You add Bain’s hit streak increasing to nine games, the evidence is staggering.

Player of the Game: Josh Smith

What a way to return from injury. The Tigers third baseman went two-for-three with a home run out to right field  to jump start the offense in the sixth.
