Before Thursday’s game, junior pitcher Alex Lange posted on Twitter “Last one, Box. Win Day.” That phrase was in his mind all game as this could be the last time he pitches inside the friendly confines of Alex Box if they don’t win one of their last two SEC series.
He was able to give LSU (33-17, 16-9 SEC) the chance to take the first game of the series against Auburn (32-19, 14-11 SEC) with a complete game shutout.
The Tigers struck first and often with Greg Deichmann starting things off with an RBI single to left centerfield. Later in the bottom of the first, Josh Smith made it 3-0 hitting a sac fly out to left field to get Deichmann home safely.
Antoine Duplantis extended LSU’s lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to right field.
Lange allowed only five hits and struck out nine on the evening.
LSU will try to clinch the series on Friday with first pitch set for 7 pm.
