Losing the way the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (9-9, 4-2 Sun Belt) did on Thursday night is going to sting. After tying things up late, UT Arlington (9-9, 3-4 Sun Belt) was able to snatch victory away by the score of 63-61.
It was all Cajuns for much of the first half as they got out to an 8-2 lead early on. However, the Mavericks fought back and took a slim lead out of the first quarter.
It looked like the Cajuns were going to take the game back after a Nekia Jones three-pointer gave them the lead back. However, the Mavs went on a 10-2 run and took a 27-22 lead into the break.
UT Arlington kept things under control to start the third quarter, but Louisiana was able to hold onto a 44-42 lead head into the final quarter thanks to Simone Fields getting nine of her 13 points in the third. The fourth quarter saw a back and forth between the two teams and the Cajuns being tied at 61 with 11 seconds left in the ballgame.
It seemed like they were headed to overtime, but a foul by Kim Burton on Crystal Allen sent her to the line with four seconds left. She made boh shots and that was enough to give them the win.
The Cajuns will travel to San Marcos, Texas to take on the Texas State Bobcats (12-6, 5-2 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 2 pm.
