Tremont Waters continues to be the MVP for the LSU Tigers (15-11, 6-8 SEC) after his performance on Saturday afternoon. His 21 points not only led the team, but a late jumper from the freshman was the deciding factor in a 64-63 victory for LSU against Missouri (18-9, 8-6 SEC).
Both teams were evenly matched in the opening moments with the lead changing three times before the first media timeout. LSU started to bridge the gap late in the first half with a big three-pointer from Skylar Mays, and were able to head into the break with a three-point lead despite some strong efforts from Mizzou.
The second half was more of the same with both teams exchanging the lead early on, but LSU was able to get it out to a five-point ballgame with 16:21 left. It continued to be a tightly contested matchup with Mizzou holding onto a three point lead with 1:17 left in regulation.
LSU’s freshman was able to get the Tigers in control late with a pair of jumpers in the final 1:08 to give them a much-needed win in conference play.
LSU will return to action on Tuesday inside the PMAC to take on Vanderbilt (10-16, 4-9 SEC) with tipoff set for 8 pm.
