Late Mistake Costs LSU Midweek Matchup Against Tulane

Just when it seems like the season couldn’t get any worse for LSU (27-15), it gets worse. Tuesday night against Tulane (21-21) looked like a win after six, but things changed in a hurry, leading to a 9-6 loss.

Greg Deichmann gave the Tigers a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth with a three run blast. It seemed like LSU could hold on late to get out of New Orleans with a win.

Everything changed after the seventh inning stretch when a misplayed ball turned the Green Wave’s fortunes around. That mistake led to Grant Witherspoon starting a rally with an RBI single to right field.

After an RBI double from Lex Kaplan tied things up, a double from Grant Brown made it 7-6. Things got much worse when a pair of Tulane players were hit by pitches with the bases loaded in the seventh, giving them a three run lead that they held onto for the rest of the night.

Zach Hess dropped to 4-1 allowing three runs off of two hits, walked two, and hit two batters in only a third of an inning of work.

The Tigers will now head over to Tuscaloosa for a three-game set against Alabama (13-16, 2-16 SEC) with first pitch on Thursday set for 6:30 pm.
