Heading into conference play, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (7-10, 0-1 Sun Belt) needed to make a strong statement in Statesboro after a rough non-conference start. That wasn’t the case as the Georgia Southern Eagles (8-10, 0-1 Sun Belt) were able to make their own statement, coming away with a 6-3 victory on Friday night.
The Cajuns got on the board in the top of the second with a sac bunt from Jonathan Windham that allowed Hayden Cantrelle to reach home safely. The Eagles responded in a big way in the bottom of the third with a three-run inning highlighted by an RBI single from Mason McWhorter.
Louisiana cut into the lead in the top of the fifth when Daniel Lahare scored off of a throwing error by Jeddediah Fagg, but that didn’t last long when Georgia Southern hit a pair of singles in the bottom of the fifth from Noah Searcy and Jason Swan.
After another throwing error by the Eagles in the sixth allowed Hayden Cantrelle to score, they were able to put the game out of reach when Chandler Corley scored off of a wild pitch.
Nick Lee dropped to 0-1 on the season allowing three runs off of one hit, walked four, and struck out two in three innings of work.
The Cajuns will look to even the series tomorrow with first pitch set for 2 pm.
