At the end of the day, it’s not about how you get runs across home plate, it’s simply about getting them across. That’s the mentality the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (2-4) had on Saturday afternoon when they scored five runs in the final three innings to even up the series with a 6-3 win over Wright State (1-4).
The Cajuns got on the board early when Tyler Stover hit a sac fly out to left field in the bottom of the first to get Gavin Bourgeois home safely. However, the Raiders got out in front in the second thanks to an RBI single from Zach Weatherford followed up by Gabe Snyder scoring off of a groundout by Chase Slone.
Wright State’s Adam Alders made it a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring off of a wild pitch by Nick Lee. Things got a little dicey in the bottom of the sixth for the Raiders when O’Neal Lochridge was walked with the bases loaded. Kasuls knotted things up later in the sixth with a fielder’s choice that got Tyler Stover home safely.
Things got even stranger in the seventh when Kennon Fontenot hit a two-run bunt single caused by a throwing error by Bentley Jones. Kasuls put the game out of reach in the eighth with a solo shot out into right field, his first of the season and his third hit of the afternoon tying a career-best.
Brock Batty improved to 2-0 on the year with one and a third innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out two. Logan Stoelke got his second save of the season, striking out three of the five batters that he faced.
The Cajuns will look to take the rubber match on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 pm.
