Louisiana Falls In Final Game of Baton Rouge Regional

Posted by clintdomingue on May 20, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns gave LSU all that they had to give on Sunday, but it wasn’t quite enough after forcing a game seven in the Baton Rouge Regional with the Tigers winning after a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

How It Happened

After an early stalemate, the Tigers got out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Amanda Doyle and a two-run shot by Michaela Schlattman.

Doyle made it 4-0 in the top of the sixth when she hit a sac fly out to left field, but the Cajuns came roaring back in the bottom frame with an RBI single from Lexie Comeaux. They then tied things up with a three-run double out to left field from Kourtney Gremillion.

It remained tied until Alissa Dalton got Aeriyl Mass home safely in the bottom of the 10th to force a 7th game in the Baton Rouge Regional.

The second game was very similar to the first go-round with neither team getting on the board until the fifth when LSU’s pinch-hitter Sydney Springfield hit an RBI single out to center field. Louisiana quickly responded in the top of the 6th when Kara Gremillion hit a groundout to third base, scoring Mass.

LSU broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double by Schlattman. She then just got across home plate later in the inning off of a fielder’s choice to shortstop to give the Tigers an insurance run.

Big Number: 167

Summer Ellyson has been the workhorse for Cajuns softball and Sunday was another example of that with 167 pitches being thrown in those two ballgames. Thankfully, Kylee Jo Trahan was put in for Ellyson for extra innings to keep their ace ready to go for an if necessary game seven.

Player of the Games: Allie Walljapser

She may have taken the loss in game one, but she had a great pair of outings on Sunday, allowing two runs off six hits in both outings.
