It was a pretty successful week in the Cayman Islands for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (5-2) with a third place finish after taking down Richmond (1-4) Wednesday afternoon thanks to a strong performance from Frank Bartley.
After an early back and forth, Richmond took over with a 16-6 run a little past the halfway mark of the first half, taking advantage of some early mistakes by the Cajuns. The Cajuns managed to tie things up with 1:59 left in the half thanks to some solid shooting by Justin Miller, but the Spiders hung on to a 34-30 lead at the break.
Richmond got out to a nine-point lead early in the second half, but the Cajuns weren’t about to give up. Bartley started off a 16-6 run of their own to take a 51-48 lead with 12:36 left in the ballgame. The Spiders got back out in front with 7:05 left in the ballgame, but JaKeenan Gant and Bartley dominated the final moments to give the Cajuns an 82-76 victory.
The Cajuns will return to the mainland on November 28th when they host in-state rival McNeese State with tipoff set for 7 pm.
