The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns women’s basketball team sure enjoys living on the edge as of late.
In each of their games in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, they’ve been down at one point in the final quarter. Saturday’s matchup was no different as top-seeded Little Rock was up by two points with 5:56 left in regulation.
That didn’t deter the Cajuns who responded with a 14-8 run over the final 5:05 to take down Little Rock and advance to the tournament finals.
“It’s a great win for our program and our university to beat a great team like Little Rock.” Coach Garry Brodhead said, “Our main focus was ‘Can we match their intensity?’ because we have a lot of similarities defensively. Our team executed the gameplan down to perfection.”
The game started out back and forth with the game being tied up three times in the final three minutes of the first quarter and the Trojans took a three point lead after a three-pointer from Monique Townson.
It was all Little Rock in the second quarter as they got out to a double digit lead with 6:14 left in the second quarter. After the media timeout, the Cajuns were able to get the game under control and take a two-point lead into the locker room.
Little Rock got back into the game in the third quarter taking a seven point lead with 5:01 left. That didn’t last though as the Cajuns got the lead back in the final three minutes of the third quarter.
The Cajuns will take on Troy for the championship and a spot in the big dance on Sunday with tipoff set for 6 pm.
