The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns offense was on fire on Thursday night, but a couple of costly mistakes late wound up costing them in a 9-8 loss to UT Arlington.
How It Happened:
The Cajuns wasted little time getting on the board with an RBI single out to right field by Todd Lott. Hunter Kasuls made it 2-0 when he grounded out on a double play ball, scoring Brennan Breaux in the process.
After a sac bunt by Brennan Breaux in the top of the second, UT Arlington tied things up with a three-run inning that was highlighted by a two-run single to left center by Phillip Childs. Zac Cook gave UT Arlington a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double out to right-center field. The Cajuns offense responded with a two-run bomb out to left field by Lott to make it a 5-4 lead. The eighth inning saw Louisiana get out to an 8-4 lead with a three-run inning capped off by an RBI single from Todd Lott.
However, the Mavs fought back in the bottom frame with a three-run inning helped out by a bases-loaded walk followed by a hit-by-pitch. UT Arlington evened things up in the bottom of the ninth when an ill-fated error by Hayden Cantrelle scored Dylan Paul. Cook finished the job later in the inning with a walk-off RBI single through the right side to take the first game of the series.
Big Number: 2
While one error in the top of the ninth proved to be costly, the two errors really proved to be the difference on Thursday night, resulting in a loss to the UT Arlington Mavericks.
Player of the Game: Todd Lott
Lott has really started to catch fire as of late, going four-of-five with four RBIs on the evening. The Cajuns may have lost last night, but Lott definitely deserved the love for his efforts.
