The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns bats were left relatively silent on Friday night, resulting in a 9-2 loss to the South Alabama Jaguars that was tough to swallow.
How It Happened:
The Jags struck first when Wells Davis drilled a two-run shot to take an early 2-0 lead. Orynn Veillon cut into the lead in the bottom frame with an RBI single that got through the left side, but the Cajuns couldn’t capitalize on a bases-loaded opportunity with one out.
Ethan Wilson increased the Jags lead with a solo shot that he lifted out to right field, making it a 3-1 ballgame. The wheels fell off though in the fifth when a throwing error by Austin Perrin off of a sac bunt wound up getting three runs across home plate after Daniel Lahare was rocked by Carter Perkins.
Veillon struck back in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff home run, but it just wasn’t enough especially after a three-run ninth highlighted by a pair of RBI triples from Dakota Dailey and Wilson.
Big Number: 10
The Cajuns bats were cold for much of the night and getting fanned 10 times in the game is more than enough of a reason for that. Going back to the bases-loaded opportunity in the second, they squandered that with two straight strikeouts to end the inning.
Player of the Game: Ethan Wilson
Wilson looked great on Friday, going three-of-five with two RBIs and was just a double shy of the cycle. The freshman definitely made a statement to start the series.
